Earlier this year we began working on an in-house documentary project about the release of 47 million bees into the Spanish ecosystem.
Biologist Paola Vecino is underway with a project to release 47 million bees into the Spanish ecosystem. The concept intrigued us and we were keen to learn more so reached out to Paola to find out about this ambitious initiative. Paola’s passion for bees radiated from her every word and we were captivated by her determination for the project. The shoot took to a number of location across Southern Spain, revealing the stark realities of the agricultural industry’s impact on bee habitat and the overall biodiversity of the region. Filming bees was a new experience and we came across various unanticipated shoot hurdles like operating a camera in a bee suits and the difficulty capturing the insane speed and irregular movements of the bees.
’47 Million Bees’ showcases the journey of Paola Vecino, a woman on a mission to make a positive impact on the Spanish ecosystem by releasing millions of bees to help recover their biodiversity. In Paola’s words – we have to take action if we want to protect our fragile ecosystems, now and in the future.
